Swim Team

We are now recruiting swimmers for the summer 2010 season.  To find out more,  click here.

 

Swim Lessons

The YMCA offers aquatic programs for all ages and abilities in a fun and safe environment. Class sizes are determined by safety factors and age of participants, and are closely monitored to ensure safety. All YMCA Aquatics classes are taught by certified instructors.

2010 Summer Class Sessions

Monday-Thursday

June 7 - June 17 Mini-session June 5 - August 13 (No class July 3)
June 21 - July 1 May 31 - June 4
July 5 - July 15

August 2 - August 12

Monday -Thursday classes will meet four times a week for two weeks.
One mini-session will be available Monday - Friday.
Fridays are reserved for make up days if class is cancelled by the YMCA. Only classes cancelled by the YMCA will be made up. Classes missed by a single student cannot be made up in the same class level at a different time. All classes require a minimum of three registered participants.

Monday - Thursday sessions:
YMCA Family Members - $53
Activity Member - $105

Monday - Friday mini-session:
YMCA Family Members - $20

Swim Lesson Descriptions and Start Times

Preschool Age: 6 months - 5 years

Parent/Child - Incorporates the use of songs and games to promote confidence in the water.  The program also teaches basic water and pool safety to parents in the class.  Classes are 30 minutes. (Ratio 1:10)  A parent accompanies the child in the water.  This class is song and game oriented to keep it lively and fun.  Ages: 6 months - 36 months

Parent/Child class (6 - 24 months) -
For children that can control their head and sit with support from the hands.

Schedule: M-TH 10:45am, 5:30pm

Little Fishes class (24 - 36 months) -
For children who can stand without support and walk with or without aid.

Schedule: M-TH 11:30am, 6:10pm


Pike - Designed for new swimmers, the Pike class helps children adjust to the water and develop independent movement in the pool. Children will learn to swim on their front and back with and without the use of floatation devices. (Ratio 1:4)   Ages: 3 - 5 years

Schedule: M-TH 15am, 10:00am, 10:45am, 11:30am, 4:50pm, 5:30pm, 6:10pm, 6:50pm
M-F 5:30pm, 6:10pm
SATURDAY 8:45am, 9:20am

Eel - For children who are able to swim 5 feet on their front and back without assistance. Children will practice swimming longer distances on their front and back without assistance. (Ratio 1:4)   Ages: 3 - 5 years

Schedule: M-TH

10:00am, 11:30am, 4:50pm, 5:30pm, 6:10pm

M-F 5:30pm
SATURDAY 8:45am, 9:20am

Ray/Starfish - Children must be able to swim 15-20 feet on their front and back. This level builds endurance, teaches underwater swimming, treading water and reviews/refines stroke skills on front and back. More advanced swimmers (Starfish) will learn sidestroke, backstroke and the beginning of breaststroke. (Ratio 1:4) Ages: 3 - 5 years

Schedule: M-TH 9:15am, 10:45am, 5:30pm, 6:50pm
M-F 6:10pm

 

Youth Classes:  6 - 12 years

Polliwog - Beginner level for those uncomfortable or inexperienced in the water.  Teaches basic water skills including gliding with face in the water, floating and kicking, as well as basic arm movements. (Ratio 1:4)  Ages 6 - 12 years

Schedule: M-TH 9:15am, 10:00am, 10:45am, 11:30am, 4:50pm, 5:30pm, 6:10pm, 6:50pm
M-F 5:30pm , 6:50pm
SATURDAY 8:45am, 9:20am

Guppy -  Children must be able to swim 15-20 feet on their front and back without assistance to enter this level. Participants will work on endurance to include swimming 25 yards front crawl, backstroke and sidestroke with/without floatation devices. Swimmers will also learn the beginning elements of elementary backstroke and sidestroke. (Ratio 1:4) Ages 6 - 12 years

Schedule: M-TH 10:00am, 10:45am, 11:30am, 4:50pm, 6:10pm
M-F 6:10pm
SATURDAY 8:45am, 9:20am


Minnow -  For children who are able to swim 25 yards of front crawl, backstroke and sidestroke with/without floatation devices. Swimmers should also know the basic movements of breaststroke and elementary backstroke. This class refines front crawl and teaches rotary breathing, and improves endurance and form of backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke. (Ratio 1:8)  Ages 6 - 12 years 

Schedule: M-TH 9:15am, 6:50pm
M-F 6:50pm

Fish - Children in the Fish level must be able to swim 25 yeards front crawl with rotary breathing, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke.  Swimmers increase endurance and improve form in the aforementioned strokes and will learn butterfly. (Ratio 1:8)   Ages 6 - 12 years

Schedule: M-TH 9:15am, 6:50pm
M-F 6:50pm

Flying Fish/Shark - Usually combined with the Fish class, children must be able to swim 50 yards front crawl, backstroke, and breastroke as well as 25 yards of butterfly.  This class improves butterfly, learns flip turns and advances, stroke technique and endurance. (Ratio 1:8)  Ages 6 - 12 years

Schedule: M-TH 9:15am, 6:50pm
M-F 6:50pm

Adult Classes:  13 years and above 

Adult Beginner - Designed to help area teens and adults learn the basics of swimming for fun or for fitness.

Schedule:  M-TH 7:30pm
